November, 1998: Updated regulations in New Jersey for Lead testing of children under 6 years old.
December, 1998: Dr. Sharon Rosenberg has decided to relocate to a different region of the country. Although we regret her departure, we wish her well in her endeavor. We at the Pediatric Group remain committed to serving your children's needs. Please continue to feel free to contact us with any concerns or questions.

However, a doctor will be available for sick related visits after closing, on December 25 and on January 1. Otherwise the office will function as usual (see Hours of Operation). We wish all our families a happy and healthy holiday season!
Dr. Cotton recently attended a lecture by Dr. Steere, the "father" of Lyme Disease. Dr. Steere was responsible for reporting the outbreak in Lyme, Connecticut, from which Lyme Disease got its name. Dr. Steere, who has been intimately involved in research about Lyme Disease and the vaccine, predicted that the Lyme vaccine might be made available by January, 1999. As soon as it becomes available we will post a message here along with information about its use and effects.
Dr. Levin recently taped a segment which will be aired on TNT cable network on December 19 or 20 as part of a special program about handicapped children. Watch your newspaper for listings of the exact time and date.
November, 1999: The American College Health Association, representing about half of the colleges in the United States which have a health service, has recommended that college students receive meningococcal vaccine. This recommendation, although widely reported in the media, is not currently supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We feel giving this vaccine to college students is probably not worthwhile for the reasons stated in Information Regarding Meningococcal Disease and Vaccine.
March, 2000: The FDA has approved pneumococcal vaccine for administration to young children. This vaccine promises to be valuable in the prevention of meningitis, pneumonia, blood infections, otitis media and sinusitits caused by this germ.
January, 2001: The New Jersey legislature has enacted a resolution that makes several changes in the immunization requirements for school attendance. As of September 1, 2001 children born after January 1, 1990 and entering grade 6 must have started the series of Hepatitis B shots. The same goes for children born after January 1, 1996 who are entering kindergarten or first grade. The series must be completed within one year.
October, 2001: After the recent heart wrenching terrorist attack of September 11, worries about future terrorist activities pervade our thoughts. In these document, Bioterrorism Preparation I , Bioterrorism Prevention II, and Bioterrorism Prevention III we offer advice for a rational approach for protection of our families.
October, 2003: New Jersey State has determined that all children born on or after January 1, 1998 should be protected from chicken pox prior to entry into day care, preschool or kindergarten/first grade for the academic year beginning September 1, 2004. Chicken pox vaccine information can be found here.
November, 2003: The American Academy of Pediatrics has released new recommendations for home preparedness for accidental childhood poisonings.
December, 2003: We concur with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics regarding who should receive infulenza vaccine.
