Brochures: The following brochures are distributed free of charge to all new patients in our practice: Our Practice (information/emergencies)- much of the information in this brochure is found in these web pages; Immunization Information (comprehensive information on routine immunizations); Breastfeeding Information or Formula Feeding Information (both are full of practical hints and guidelines); Prevention of Travel Associated Diseases (information on special immunizations and preventative advice); Adoption (information for prospective adoptive parents).
Newsletters and Announcements: From time to time, we mail announcements of special importance and newsletters regarding timely topics to our patient population. These are also available through this website. Specific notifications regarding specific clinical conditions are made by telephone or letter to individual families.
Confidentiality: In our practice, all communications and findings are held confidential in the child's medical record.
Telephone consultations: Patients are free to request consultations with a doctor or a nurse regarding disease, growth/nutrition, parenting, development, sports, school performance, adoption, etc.
Telephone response: Rapid response by professional staff (doctors/nurses) to questions from parents or patients (see HOURS OF OPERATION, return calls).
Physician telephone hour: This service is available daily, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. all year to schedule appointments or ask questions.
Examinations: Complete physical and comprehensive health maintenance review, including growth, nutrition, sports, and psychosocial, safety and educational issues from birth through college age (refer to the Our Practice brochure for specifics).
Sick child visits: Acute and follow up visits for problems are available on a same day basis with flexible scheduling (see HOURS OF OPERATION).
Consultations for other physicians: We are happy to provide consultations for children upon referral from other physicians. Communication with the referring physician, as well as with the child's family, is an integral part of the consultative process.
After Hours Talks: Prenatal, preadoption and new patient interviews are welcome. There is no fee for this service. Special time for consultations is available for any topic. Some children's issues require more time for discussion than is available during regular hours. Many topics require the participation of both parents or other parties. Our physicians are available for after hours consultations, either in person or by telephone, regarding these topics. These consultations can be scheduled by calling the office during regular hours.
Lactation Consultations: Private and small group Lactation Consultations can be arranged through The Pediatric group. This valuable service can be utilized either for prenatal education or for help with lactation issues after delivery.
Adoption: We are comfortable with the range of issues regarding domestic and foreign adoption. Please see our brochure, Adoption Information.
After hours visits: A doctor from our group is always on-call for after-hours emergencies on weeknights, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. Should a child experience an urgent problem and need to be seen, the parent should telephone the office number and inform the answering service or doctor of the nature of the problem. The doctor can then arrange an appropriate time and place for an examination. It is always best to telephone first before transporting a child to an emergency facility. Many visits can be avoided with appropriate advice. Direct registration in an emergency facility generally entails a longer wait for service than a visit pre-arranged with us. The charge for visits at these times is greater than the charge for visits during regular office hours. IN ANY INSTANCE OF A LIFE-THREATENING PROBLEM, YOUR FIRST CALL SHOULD BE TO YOUR LOCAL RESCUE SQUAD.
Inpatient care: All of our physicians are on staff at The Medical Center at Princeton. In order to be available to provide personal attention to all of our inpatients, we do not maintain active admitting privileges at any other institutions. Princeton Hospital has a level II Special Care Nursery (staffed by neonatal specialists) and pediatric beds on a well designed, attractive, comfortable family unit where parents may stay with their children around the clock and where the pediatric nursing staff is specifically trained to care for sick children and adolescents. A variety of specialists are available to us for local consultations. As well, should the need arise, we are ideally situated within a reasonable distance of numerous tertiary care settings in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New York. Because we strive to provide the best possible care for our practice population and we are not constrained by insurance company ties, we have the availability of making referrals anywhere in the world to the physician or service best suited to deal with a particular issue.
Continuity: Being a group practice, we strive for continuity. Our extra efforts at intra-office communications, our computer link to Princeton Hospital and our unified patient record provide continuity of care whether the situation involves outpatient or inpatient and newborn care.
Immunizations: Routine and special immunizations are given in our office. Pre-immunization counseling and informational brochures are provided to assure complete awareness of the diseases we are attempting to prevent and the vaccines we are administering. Ample time is scheduled for questions on these issues.
Ancillary services: In-house laboratory and x-ray services (performed by our licensed technicians in governmentally inspected and approved facilities) allow us to obtain rapid and accurate diagnostic testing. We employ Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation/Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act approved Quality Control procedures and participate in regular Proficiency Testing. Our facilities meet OSHA standards and are inspected and approved by the NJDEP and the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services Clinical Laboratory Improvement Service.
Emergency life support preparedness: We are equipped with a regularly maintained (although infrequently needed) emergency equipment and medication cart. Our professional staff members are all continually certified in life support procedures. Emergency transport to hospital facilities is readily available.
Cardio-pulmonary monitoring: Complete pulmonary function testing, respiratory inhalation therapy and transcutaneous oxygen monitoring are available in our office to assist in the management of cardiac and pulmonary diseases.
Intravenous fluid therapy: We have the capability of administering intravenous fluids and medication. This service sometimes allows us to avoid hospitalization in dehydrated children.
Skeletal injuries: We are equipped to diagnose, x-ray (if necessary) and stabilized orthopedic injuries. Those injuries requiring casting are referred to local qualified specialists.
Lacerations: We are equipped to repair minor lacerations. We refer complex or facial lacerations to local qualified specialists.
Hearing and vision screening: Beginning at age 3 years, all children routinely undergo hearing and vision screening at yearly examinations. There is no fee for this service.
Tympanometry: Our office is equipped with modern ear pressure technology to assist in the management of otitis media.
Ear piercing: This service is available for children who are mature enough to properly care for their pierced ears. We do not offer piercing of other body parts.
Wart removal: Several different methods of wart ablation are available for those with functionally impairing lesions. Telephone consultation is often valuable prior to an office visit, since warts can often be dealt with at home.
Pap smears: Dr. Rose is experienced in providing gentle but thorough gynecologic examinations to adolescent females with single-use equipment.
