Office Hours, Telephone Hour, Return Calls, Early Sick Child Visits, Scheduled Appointments, Sunday/Holiday Visits, After Hours Visits, After Hours Talks

Regular Office Hours: Doctors' telephone hour: 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. daily; scheduled appointments: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. through 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The office is closed from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on weekdays and after 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. One of the physicians is for emergencies. If a child needs to be seen on a Sunday or Holiday, it is best to call on telephone hour that always available day to arrange an appointment before the office closes. The fee for visits after hours or in the emergency department is greater than that for visits in our office during regular hours.

Telephone Hour: The doctors answer the telephone every day of the year from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. in order to respond to questions or schedule appointments. Parents find this a convenient time to contact us so they can plan their day or get early care or advice for a sick child.

Return calls: In addition to our telephone hour service, parents may request a return call anytime during the day from a doctor or a nurse. We return calls within a reasonable period of time. In the evening, after office hours, the doctor on-call will return calls from parents of ill children to offer advice or to see the child if necessary. Our on-call doctors have designed a system to answer after-bedtime calls themselves so that parents of acutely ill children overnight may deal directly with the doctor rather than via an intermediary. The one exception, of course, occurs when the on-call doctor is already out of bed responding to an emergency. In this instance, the answering service will air-page the doctor to obtain as rapid a return call as possible.

Early Sick Child Visits: Both for the convenience of the parents and to assure timely examination of ill children, illness related visits are available at 9:00 a.m. on Monday through Saturday and after 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sundays and Holidays (these times may vary according to the circumstances at the time). We do our best to accommodate families and children with special needs and circumstances. Requests for special service should be directed to one of the physicians in the office or the physician on-call, if outside of regular hours.

Scheduled Appointments: Regular health supervision examination (check-up) appointments are available from 9:30 a.m. in the Spring through the Fall and from 10:00 a.m. in the winter through 12:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Afternoon session appointments are available from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Spring through the Fall and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the winter Monday through Friday. Illness related appointments can be made from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Sunday/Holiday Visits: One of our doctors is in the office in the mornings on Sundays and Holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, the first day of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Thanksgiving and Christmas) until all the children in need of examination are seen. The office then closes and the doctor will be available on-call for emergencies. If a child needs to be seen on a Sunday or Holiday, it is best to call on telephone hour that day to arrange an appointment before the office closes. The office charge at these times is greater than the charge for visits during regular office hours.

After Hours Visits: A doctor from our group is always on-call for after-hours emergencies on weeknights, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. Should a child experience an urgent problem and need to be seen, the parent should telephone our office number and inform the answering service or doctor of the nature of the problem. The doctor can then arrange an appropriate time and place for an examination. It is always best to telephone first before transporting a child to an emergency facility. Many visits can be avoided with appropriate advice. Direct registration in an emergency facility generally entails a longer wait for service and higher costs than a visit pre-arranged with us. The charge for visits at these times is greater than the charge for visits during regular office hours. IN ANY INSTANCE OF A LIFE-THREATENING PROBLEM, YOUR FIRST CALL SHOULD BE TO YOUR LOCAL RESCUE SQUAD at 911.

After Hours Talks: Prenatal and new patient interviews are welcome. There is no fee for this service. Some children's issues require more time for discussion than is available during regular hours. Many topics require the participation of both parents or other parties. Our physicians are available for after hours consultations, either in person or by telephone, regarding these topics. These consultations can be scheduled by calling the office during regular hours.
